KAS FE MI LE

 KAS-KAS
When Kas debuted with ‘Fi Mi Le’ a short while ago, he stirred the Nigerian music playbook with his style; he offered daring lyrics, he brought a cocky mien,  and exuded an almost-brash swagger; he’s here now, with his self-titled debut album, to finish what he started; style, attitude and all.

When natural producers decide to shift lanes to become performing artistes, one usually expects a body of work made primarily of a feast of music that relies heavily on the production; rather than the singing or song-writing itself; and this album is not much different.  Kas’ music reflects his UK music roots, with nods to house, grime, and ska genres. He allows his production to flow, seemingly from the same basic mold, and neither his singing nor rapping are up to much and are mostly warbled or through a vocoder, meaning he has to rely on the likeability of the songs, and also the club-friendliness of his beats to give the album some strength.

Kas’ debut album really does not have much to offer a discerning listener, and is not really memorable after the first listen; All the sales and promotion of the album will come from popular singles including ‘Fi Mi Le’, ‘Fi Mi Le’ remix with D’banj and 2face, and ‘If You Wind For Me’. Obviously, Kas is a talented producer, but ‘Fi Mi Le’, however great a single, is not enough to certify Kas as an artiste.
